HEALING PROCESS—From August 3 to September 2, this exhibit will show how the creative process can be a healer. Three artists each use their artistic practice to explore the illnesses of their loved ones to interpret treatment, pain and tragedy, and to reconcile their own emotions. Opening reception and artist’s talk on August 3.

ARTWALK—On August 3, the fourth ArtWalk of the summer will spread across the Perron District. Also, pop into AGSA to see their current exhibit Healing Process, and VASA’s exhibit Through the Paint. Many local venues will offer refreshments, as well as host special events.

ROCK’N AUGUST—From August 8 to 12, the 21st annual Rock’n August gets underway with four days of nostalgic fun for everyone. There’ll be pancake breakfasts, barbeques, dances, show ‘n’ shines and the ever popular Friday Night Cruise. This annual event raises money for the Alberta Diabetes Foundation; its goal this year is $150,000.

ICE CREAM SOCIAL CLAY WORKSHOP—On August 10, kids aged 5 to 12 get the chance to make their own ice cream bowl from sculpting the clay all the way to making their own unique design. If you love ice cream, then why not make a bowl befitting this wonderful treat? Dress in old clothes.

POUNDMAKER’S LODGE ANNUAL POW WOW—From August 12 to 13, the annual Pow Wow commences. This year’s theme is “Honouring Our Elders: Past and Present.” There’ll be a drum contest, Iron Man and Iron Woman dance competition, arts and crafts, and food vendors. This is a free, family friendly event open to everyone.

COMMUNITY WATER FIGHT—On August 19, beat the heat with the first-ever St. Albert Community water fight against the St. Albert Fire Services. Bring the family for a barbeque and to check out the ambulances and fire trucks—including the new aerial truck. Donations go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada.

EDMONTON AIR SHOW—From August 19 to 20, it’s time to watch the skies. Come see aerial acrobatics from the SkyHawks and the Snowbirds. Also at the show will be jets and planes, a freestyle motorcross show, a beer garden, kids’ activities, helicopter rides and food truck village.

ENCHANTED GARDEN PICNIC IN THE PARK—On August 20, bring your family and friends out to the Botanic Park for a picnic lunch. Live music provided by the Kitka Quartet will be held in the Rose Garden, and Crabapple Lane will be the hub for all the kids’ activities. Refreshments will be provided.

FOOD TRUCKS—On August 25, the food trucks return one last time until next year. Bring your family and friends and dine al fresco courtesy of 12 of the region’s best food trucks, including Lemon Grass Grill, The Crooked Fork, Explore India Food Truck and Davinci Gelato Originale. There’ll also be a beer garden and local live music, as well as pottery-throwing demos with Art Gallery of St. Albert.
